The Stiebel Eltron DHC series tankless water heaters are well built, economical, and ultra-compact point-of-use tankless water heaters designed for basic point of use applications. Basic point of use applications include many bathroom sinks, kitchens, commercial washrooms, emergency eyewash stations, etc. The DHC series is designed for applications with a relatively constant flow rate. If the flow rate will potentially fluctuate in your application due to varying water demands, incoming water temperatures, or water pressures, we recommend that you consider a DHC-E Series tankless water heater with thermostatic control and flow-based power modulation technology.

The Stiebel Eltron DHC 3-1 can conveniently fit directly under a sink or in an adjacent cupboard or closet, which allows it to deliver hot water to the application almost instantly. By locating the heater right next to the faucet, you can also virtually eliminate the thermal heat loss which is commonly associated with long pipe runs. If the DHC 3-1 can supply all of the hot water needs for the room, you may also be able to eliminate the need to run a hot water line all the way from the main central water heater. This can result in significant savings in plumbing and material costs.

By producing hot water on demand only as it is being used, the DHC 3-1 is extremely energy efficient. A sophisticated water flow sensor recognizes when hot water is turned on and when it has been turned off, so the unit will activate and deactivate automatically so it only runs when you are actually using hot water. The standby thermal heat losses associated with traditional tank type water heaters are therefore eliminated. You can expect to see a significant reduction in cost over operating a conventional water heater.

An exclusive scald-guard thermostat keeps the water temperature within safe limits at all times. Additionally, the DHC water heaters are equipped with a safety high-limit with manual reset. The rugged all copper design ensures many years of reliable service.

The Stiebel Eltron DHC 3-1 is one of the only tankless water heaters available on the market today that can be run on 120 (110) volt power, however, it does require a dedicated 30 amp circuit and should be wired directly to the main electrical panel (you cannot use a standard plug-in).

0.5 GPM pressure compensating flow reducer/aerators that fit on most faucets are included at no charge.

The Stiebel Eltron DHC 3-1 is not recommended for whole house use. For more information on whole house models, see our Stiebel Eltron Tempra Series Whole House Tankless Water Heaters.

Question:Would this unit produce enough hot water to supply a shower?
Answer(s):

The DHC 3-1 is not typically powerful enough to supply hot water to a shower, unless it's very low flow in a tropical climate. Assuming a 64F incoming water temperature it would only provide a maximum of 0.5 gallons per minute of 105F water. A typical shower uses 1.5 - 2.5 gpm.

DHC 5-2 Classic Electric Tankless Water Heater5 Stars
This is my fifth Water Heater from Stiebel Eltron. I can only say top notch product. I have installed first two units 11 years a go. (Tempra 15 Plus first generation and DHC-E 8). There was no problems with these two units at all. Just regular maintenance flushing every year. I have also two SHC 2.5 mini- tanks. One installed in the garage and the other under sink in bathroom.Also I have to say service from Stiebel Eltron is top notch if required. - Ivan

Do You Have Hard Water?

ecoTAC discount offer
If your water hardness trends above 7 grains per gallon (GPG) or 120 mg/l (ppm), you should consider hard water treatment prior to your tankless water heater. If your hardness exceeds 12 GPG or 200 mg/l (ppm), hard water treatment is strongly recommended.

Hard water treatment helps maintain performance and efficiency, ensures optimal water flow and pressure, and protects your heater from pre-mature failure due to mineral build-up inside the heating module and other components.
